Default Is damage output linked to req of weapon?

Hi everyone, I met some guy online recently who insisted that lower req axes ( ie req8 ) does more dps than an axe with same stats (ie req13) at the same level of axe mastery (ie axe mastery 16).

I thought he was just fooling around..... But after talking a little longer i knew he was serious.He even challenged me to run a self test.

I belief that the damage output is not inferior as long as weapon mastery is higher than weapon req.

I would like to hear your views reguarding this issue.

Your imputs are of great value. Thank you & God bless.

he is wrong.
damage output is linked to the attribute, 12 in mastery being 100% of the damage listed if you meet the req.

12 mastery
axe 6-28 req 8 -> you: 6-28
axe 6-28 req 13 -> you: peanuts

8 mastery
axe 6-28 req 8 -> you: X% of 6-28

Nope, he is a fool, and he is wrong.

If you have a req. 8 Axe, and a req. 13 Axe, and 16 Axe Mastery, you'll do the same damage with each.

The only real difference (considerin', as a good warrior, you'd never *dream* of anything less than 14 mastery ) is that the req. 13 is 100x cheaper.

Moral of the story? Never trust guys you meet on the internet

The previous 2 posters are very much correct. Req 9 axes are no different from req 13 axes if you have an axe mastery of 16, yet I have heard that it's possible to cause more critical hits with the high spec/low req combination than high spec/high req. Yet,I, personally,have never proven or dispelled this theory.

I'd also like to be completely redundant and say that the previous 3 posters are correct.

Do the wild Blow test.

- Get a req 9 weapon with no mods.
- Get a req 10/11/12 weapon with no mods.
- Wild Blow with each on a 60 armor target in isle of the nameless.
- Record results.
- Compare results.
- See they are 0 damage off, presuming you have 12+ weapon mastery and don't swap the points.
